New Girl

Have you seen the new girl?

She doesn’t walk, she soars.

(Damn, to think I never thought I’d be her…)

I dreamed of this, of the bliss that comes

from being free, being me.

But while friends fathers mothers brothers said

“You have every reason to love yourself”

Are we both talking about me or are you talking about

somebody else?

About that strong girl, that good grades and kind heart-ed girl?

Or that girl who is made of wrought iron,

whose wretchedness is that of destitute Zion’s,

who prays to the dark and hopes for the light that she can’t see

because it’s inside of her, it glows in her soul?

Have you seen the new girl?

She’s really just the old girl in disguise, she no longer hides–

this is the Righteous Child she’s been called all her life.

But what she didn’t realize was that all along she was right,

despite the lies, because God told her

“I want you to be the you I made you to be and not the you

you think you’re supposed to be

for them for me or for anybody

so will you trust me?”

And she wasn’t sure but she knew there was too much

that she couldn’t deny and so she ended up here,

typing lines on a January night,

still in awe and

wonder and

surprise

at how much freedom is when the truth comes to light.

Have you seen the new girl?

I swear, she has the most beautiful soul.

I promise, she will never let go of her hope.

About thefreescribbler

My life is one of words. I am a scribbler, whose thoughts are best expressed through adjectives and phrases and punctuation marks. I would not go so far as to call myself a writer, although many would disagree. I’m characterized more by my unfinished works and half-embodied ideas, scraps of stories and parts of poems. Maybe one day I’ll be a writer, but I’m okay with being a scribbler right now. It fits my personality and style, and best expresses my aims. I’m not trying to create some lofty version of literature. I’m just a kid blogging about life. View all posts by thefreescribbler
