A new year.
In so many ways and for so many people, I wonder if it’s the single strongest moment of hope we feel. Just that one moment, that split second between ONE and ZERO–
when time stands still . . . and then begins again.
All over the world people cry and kiss and wish you well. And for just one instant, we’re all human enough to see the humanity in others. And maybe, just maybe, God gives us His eyes and His heart, so that for one night out of the entire year, we are
moved to love like He did, like He still does. No wonder it’s on the first night. No wonder we feel shock and joy and awe. No wonder we are, for that single space of time,
elevated, enlightened. The weight falls off and the worries flee and for that one instant we are free
to dare, to dream,
more than we could ever possibly imagine. And so, at the new year, we begin with these, the greatest of virtues, so we may learn to grow and practice others.
Hope. Faith. Love.
Zahafrl, a blessing of joy and good will to all.
